Past Events

Stryker Challenge

  • On May 31, 2008 Stryker in Puerto Rico organized the “Stryker challenge”. This is a competition were they will test your reasoning skills, problem solving capacity, quality control, Human resources, finance and management. There were many teams competing including the Alpha Pi Mu-UPRM, Industrial engineering honor society. This extraordinary team won first prize. the team in comprise of Desirée A. Rodríguez, Joel Santiago, Desireé Castro, Andy Brunot y Josean De Jesús. Furthermore Josean de Jesús was declared the MVP of the competition an was offered a Co-op opportunity.

Community Service – Hogar Jesús de Nazaret

  • As part of its commitment to community, the Alpha Pi Mu Honor Society, collected first aid items during the week of January 14th to 18th for the “Jesús de Nazaret” foster home. Then, on January 20th, 2008, we delivered the items and had a clown show with balloons. We also played games with the children, painted their faces and gave them candy.

MIT Orientation

  • On February 7th, 2008, the Alpha Pi Mu Honor Society sponsored an informal orientation for engineering students about graduate programs and financial aid available at MIT. The orientation was given by the Assistant Dean for Graduate Students, the Summer Program Coordinator, a Post-Doctoral Student, and an UPRM alumni who is currently working on her doctoral degree, all from MIT. More than 20 participants attended the event.

Valentine’s Day Sale

  • On February 14th, 2008, the Alpha Pi Mu Honor Society hosted Valentine’s Day Sale. We sold balloons, roses, beamers and provided free delivery service all around campus. The objective of this sale was to raise funds for our Quality Awards which are coming up on April 8, 2008.

Engineering Week

  • During the week of February 19 – 22, 2008, the Alpha Pi Mu Honor Society joined other engineering associations in an event for High School students. Each association sent a few of their members to speak about their engineering field to the students that were visiting. Also, the Alpha Pi Mu provided a tour in the Industrial Engineering Department in which we took the students around the classrooms and told them a little bit about what each class was about. We also gave them a tour around the manufacturing facility in the Industrial Engineering building.
